Patrick Connolly is a geophysicist specializing in seismic reservoir characterization. He is the inventor of Elastic Impedance and the Seismic Net Pay method, and a co-inventor of Extended Elastic Impedance (EEI) which have become standard tools within the oil and gas industry.
More recently, Connolly developed One Dimensional Stochastic Inversion (ODiSI), a new and revolutionary approach to seismic inversion.
We sat down with Connolly to talk about:
- the uncertainties of seismic reservoir characterization
- how probabilistic seismic inversion methods and Bayesian methods can provide better results
- the difference between a data-driven and a physics-driven approach to seismic inversion, and
- the development of and advantages of using ODiSI
